The four year old chestnut stallion, FS Mockingbird, has returned with a vengeance. The Wire Finish Cup Dirt winner is acting like he's never left. The formerly owned stallion hails from the prestigious Whitebrook Farm, but as can be seen from his past performances, he's more than happy to be racing under the Intrepid Silks.
His sire is the IR owned, Oddside (Spotted By a Star x Stormwing) and out of the highly coveted mare, Fly High Silver (Fly High x Muskhari Silver). Boasting pure classic MHS bloodlines, Mockingbird is really bringing the spotlight back onto older bloodlines and showing their proven success. Spotted By a Star is a Twilight Stakes champion as well as Stormwing. Stormwing being the only ever two time winner of the Twilight Stakes. Fly High Silver is also the dam of Frontier (Sire of Nightshade), GS Ultimate Challenge (Steeplechaser Success, Sire of Xalbadora) and raging success Geronimo (Eclipse Awards '06 Horse of the Year, Eclipse Awards '06 Older Male of the Year, Winner of a Racing Emmy, February '06 Dawn Treader Cup Winner, Twilight Stakes Second, 2007 BCA Stud With Best Lineage, 2007 BCA Stud With Most Successful Background). So needless to say Mockingbird comes from a rich heritage and he's definitely living up to those expectations now on the track.
Since his return to the tracks, the Oddside son hasn't place outside of the money. Climbing from G2 to G1 within 3 months, Mockingbird has claimed four wins, a second and a third. His most recent win was over the proven G1 mare Mystical Melody from ARS. The race was close and fierce, but Mockingbird managed to sweep the win from the older mare by a head. Intrepid couldn't be more pleased with the chestnut's performance and is excited to see how he continues to progress throughout the year.
When asked what the future plans were for the the chestnut stallion all we could get from Nick Landing (His trainer and Jockey) was that the stallion would be seen much more in the higher staked races.
